Tinnanbar is a tranquil coastal village, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Getting around is easy, whether you're exploring the serene beaches or visiting nearby natural wonders. Here's how to make the most of your time in and around Tinnanbar.
Walking
Tinnanbar’s laid-back charm is best explored on foot. Whether you're strolling along the long stretches of quiet beach or meandering through the peaceful village streets, walking is a perfect way to slow down and take in the natural beauty. Keep an eye out for local wildlife like goannas, and a variety of native birds, especially around sunrise and sunset. The calm atmosphere and lack of traffic make it ideal for a relaxed, scenic wander any time of day.
Great Sandy Strait Marine Park
Just off the coast of Tinnanbar, this protected marine park is perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, and wildlife watching. The waters are home to dolphins, dugongs, and a range of birdlife. If you're into fishing, it’s also a great spot to try your luck.
Hervey Bay
About an hour’s drive north, Hervey Bay is known for its relaxed vibe and whale watching from July to November. The Esplanade is lined with cafes, shops, and restaurants, and you can enjoy walks along the beachfront or visit the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens.
Maryborough
A short 35mins drive away, the historic town of Maryborough offers a glimpse into the region’s colonial past. Take a walking tour around the heritage buildings, visit the Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum, or enjoy a peaceful afternoon at the Botanical Gardens.
No Public Transport, Fuel Stations and Shops
Tinnanbar is a tranquil getaway, but please note that the village does not have public transport, fuel stations, or shops on-site. We recommend stocking up on supplies before arriving, as there are no convenience stores or grocery shops in the village.

Tinnanbar is located in the Great Sandy Straits Marine Park overlooking the southern western side of Fraser Island.
Tinnanbar has no shops, cafes, bait shops or fuel stations. The nearest facilities are a 40 mins drive away in Maryborough or Tin Can Bay.
Tinnanbar Rd is 15kms with 3 kms of it being gravel but is still accessible to small vehicles. Please search Tinnanbar's location prior to booking.
